Allergies and Autoimmune Disorders

SAAT Allergy Desensitization:

Allergies are incredibly common and their prevalence has been increasing in recent years. Food allergies, environmental allergies, seasonal allergies, animal allergies and more. Some are so serious that we are reduced to living in a bubble of fear. We have an option. At Acupuncture Healing Center, we offer a unique and extremely effective form of allergy treatment known as Soliman Auricular Allergy Treatment (SAAT).

SAAT was developed by Dr. Nader Soliman, an innovator in the field of auricular (ear) acupuncture.  This method of allergy desensitization provides unparalleled results for multiple forms allergies. Utilizing the SAAT method, we can reduce or desensitize your reaction to allergens. Carmela Mager is a certified SAAT practitioner and utilizes this method to treat allergies including:

Alpha-gal  | Food allergies | Animal Allergies | Environmental Allergies | And many others

SAAT Allergy Treatment

This one needle approach is shown to help people with gluten, dairy, sugar and many other known allergies/sensitivities.

It is also specifically used to target and treat Alpha-gal, a meat allergy that is caused by tick-borne illness.

Why should you use SAAT treatment:

Western medicine allergy treatments often rely on shots and medications that can cause unwanted side effects and must be taken continuously. SAAT offers a simple, effective solution with no side-effects. Here are the many reasons why we recommend this treatment:

•       The SAAT procedure is incredibly easy for patients to receive.

•       One to three treatments are all that is typically necessary.

•       Its safety is unparalleled.

•       There are no known side effects.

•       It is a fairly inexpensive and quick procedure.

•       The results have been remarkable.

•       The results have been shown to last.

How the Procedure is Done

The treatment will involve a virtually painless insertion of a tiny (3mm) hair-thin, sterilized, stainless-steel acupuncture needle into the skin of the outer ear. Since the ear has complex neurological, embryological, and electromagnetic connections to the brain, this makes it possible to treat many issues. Auricular (ear) acupuncture technique has long been medically accepted by the World Health Organization.

For this treatment, Carmela will protect and secure a needle so that it maintains stimulation for 3 weeks (patient may then easily remove it from home). Clinical results show that this can trigger the body in such a way that the allergy/sensitivity goes away itself, naturally.

What to expect in your initial SAAT visit:

  • Initial Consultation: A longer visit in which we will do a full intake of your heath and also conduct tests for other possible underlying issues.

  • Testing: All patients will be checked for mast cell activation syndrome and histamine.  Carmela has found that often times these conditions must be cleared in addition to the allergy.

  • Treatment: Auricular acupuncture treatment.

  • Dietary changes: Carmela will prescribe recommended dietary changes to support your treatment.

  • Follow-up: The full course of treatment with SAAT will generally include 2-3 visits/treatments with Carmela with a 3-4 week interval between treatments.

Allergies

Our immune system is responsible for keeping bacteria, viruses, microbes and toxins from interrupting the normal functions of the body. It is a complex system that involves specialized cells (such as T-cells, B cells, macrophages and others) that recognize and destroy foreign entities. Poor nutrition, stress, lack of sleep and repeated exposure to harmful agents all lead to a declining immune system that is no longer able to respond effectively when the need arises. And once it is compromised, a weak immune system results in frequent colds, allergies, the inability to fight off infections and general feelings of malaise.

TCM offers effective tools to strengthen a weakened immune system. The National Institute of Health and many published studies concur that acupuncture has far-reaching effects on immune system health. This is accomplished through the needling of specific acupuncture points and their subsequent effect on the nervous system. Other effects of acupuncture relax the body, help a person sleep and promote healthy digestion all of which support a healthy immune system.

The immune system includes antibodies, white blood cells, mast cells, complement proteins, and other substances. It is our body’s defense against foreign substances called antigens. The immune system can overreact to certain antigens, called allergens, which are harmless in most people. The result is an allergic reaction. In other words, it isn’t the allergy itself that is the problem, but the person’s reaction to the allergen.

TCM is now being acknowledged as an effective treatment for many common autoimmune disorders. Treatments provide a marked improvement in general wellbeing and quality of life. Immune-related disorders that may be treated with WS-TCM include:

  • Asthma

  • Seasonal allergies

  • Lupus

  • Type 1 Diabetes

  • Rheumatoid arthritis

  • Ulcerative colitis

  • Crohn’s disease

  • Psoriasis

  • Immune deficiency syndrome

  • Alpha-Gal

What will treatment include?

Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine will be utilized in tandem to help alleviate the symptoms of allergies when they are active and more importantly, can help to correct the immune system imbalance that causes the allergic response in the first place.

Acupuncture points are selected based on your individual constellation of signs and symptoms. The focus of each treatment will be on relieving the troubling symptoms while simultaneously helping your body stop the allergic cascade. It is also very important to use acupuncture and herbs preventatively, when you are not having allergy problems.

Certain acupuncture points have been shown to enhance the immune system’s performance.

We work with our clients to understand not only their symptoms, but the underlying patterns that may be contributing to an overactive or underactive immune response. Treatment may include acupuncture, herbs, nutrition, and lifestyle counseling, and address issues such as sleep and stress.

How many treatments will I need?

The severity and nature of the allergic condition will determine the length and type of treatment. Typically a person will spend 6 months treating their allergies as it is important to treat between acute attacks in order to address the underlying immune system imbalance. After an initial consultation during which you will discuss your health history and current symptoms, your acupuncturist will prepare a treatment plan with you. Allergies are becoming more prevalent each year and it is important to take care of our immune systems so that we as a species continue to thrive in this world.

“I have been taking regular acupuncture treatments for my Parkinson’s Disease for 5 years. I read about how it was helping another PD patient on “Patients Like Me”, a website dedicated to people with neurological disorders. I always feel energized and stronger afterwards and my gait is more balanced than it was prior to treatment. Cholena is knowledgeable and compassionate and always positive. She always encourages me and helps me to recognize the progress I’m making.”

“I have seen Carmela for several years and she has completely changed my life. I have suffered from sinus allergies since childhood and after two different 10-year bouts with allergy shots which were no longer working, I was out of options. Carmela has either cured or managed my allergies to the point that I just do not suffer any longer. This year pollen has been particularly bad but I have not had any significant difficulties. Thank you Carmela!”
